Sligo Women in Business Network

Yesterday evening, at the Sligo Women in Business Network (SWIBN) I gave a 1 hour Master Class on Social Media, Conversation Marketing and Professional Networking. The whole evening was very enjoyable although I must admit the ‘girl-power’ was a little over powering. I was delighted to be able to dispel any myths about these topics and attendees seemed very encouraged about the benefits for their business.

I would like to thank network facilitators Oonagh Monaghan and Amanda Scott for inviting me.

At 11 I attended an Early Stage VC & Angel Investor Event by FundingPost.

We did a pitching workshop and then had to pitch for real on front of 5 VC’s with over 100 start-ups watching.

From there I attended a networking event by SDForum – Business Intelligence SIG: - The Analytics behind LinkedIn by DJ Patil. The presentation was excellent.

Day one of our trade mission to Silicon Valley kicked off with a visit to Berkeley’s Center for Entrepreneurship where we learned about the latest trends in technology, venture capitalism and how the university drives the commercialization of research. After a quick lunch at Berkeley’s faculty club, we were off to San Jose to the US Access Center where we learned about their non-profit programs to facilitate overseas business entry to the US. After that, we were off to Sun Microsystems, where we discussed tech industry trends. The day concluded with some of the group meeting with the Irish Pastoral Centre and others attending a tech networking event. All in all, a very productive and busy first day in sunny Silicon Valley. A group of us attended a networking event yesterday evening hosted by SDForum. CEO Jeff Lawson gave a great presentation about his experience with a number of his start-ups, Twilio being his latest.

Twilio allows your web application to easily make and receive phone calls, using only basic web programming skills like HTTP, XML, and REST.

There is also a great TechCrunch about Twilio article here.
